There were 251,377 abortions for women resident in England and Wales in 2022 - the highest number since the Abortion Act was introduced and an increase of 17% over the previous year. 

​

Scotland: 16584 abortions were carried out in 2022.

Pregnancy centres:

A group working to support local centres have published the following statistics (based on responses from 20 centres about their work in 2023):

​

• 1225 new clients seen

• 7608 sessions spent supporting clients

• 2142 total client contacts

• 336 clients facing an unplanned pregnancy supported

• 360 clients supported following an abortion

• 529 clients supported following miscarriage, stillbirth, child bereavement or adoption

• 6793 school pupils educated

• 176 prisoners supported
